Joining us as a Cadet

Everyone is welcome to our inclusive and diverse organisation, whatever your ability, culture, nationality, or gender; if you are in year 8 or above and between 12 - 17 years old, come and join.

Aside from flying, sports, target shooting, adventure training and great fun, you will soon discover that being a Royal Air Force Air Cadet is its own reward - you will constantly see the benefits of your own efforts, building on your achievements, earning BTEC, DofE Awards and much more. You'll be expected to take part in as many of the activities we provide as possible, but with what's on offer you will not need much persuading!

As 'military' youth organisation we set high standards for you to maintain so you will naturally take pride in your uniform (we supply that) and appearance. As a well-mannered and self-disciplined you will be joining an organisation of which you will be proud to be a part of.

Visit the Squadron
When you visit the squadron for the first time please bring along your parents/guardians so you can all can see what we do and get a chance to chat to the cadets and staff who are already having a great time as members of the Squadron.

Your First Night
On your first night if they haven’t been emailed you will need to bring your completed consent certificate, health declaration and gift aid forms. You will spend some time getting to know the other cadets in the Recruit Flight and be properly introduced to all the staff members.
Initial Training
Your initial training is split into 3 parts, and all 3 should be completed within 6 months of you joining the squadron.
You will find yourself out and about practicing your navigation skills, learning about the RAF and the ATC as well as the physics behind aeroplanes.
Enrolment
Part one and two of your initial training should be completed within 3 months of you joining. At this point you can be enroled as a full member of the squadron.
The enrolment ceremony is a great opportunity to invite your family down for the night to see what you’ve done in such a short amount of time!
